Purpose-built Measurement System

Port Augusta Power Station | Flinders Operations | $550,000

SUDEL successfully partnered with an R&D provider to develop and implement a unique solution to address issues relating to soot accumulation and build-up in a boiler of the coal-fired power station, which was impacting efficiency and excessive erosion of the tubes.

In collaboration with the R&D provider, our instrumentation expertise was utilised to develop and install a purpose-built non-intrusive measurement system to detect optimal cleaning time required to remove the soot layer, without impacting on tube erosion.

This unique system is utilised to routinely monitor soot buildup within the boiler and was successfully interfaced with the soot cleaning control system, giving the Port Augusta Power Station an automatic soot cleaning system for the first time in the history of the plant.
